Think Spring!
April 2003

Look at those cute rugrats! It's hard to believe that Matt is now only two years younger than Camille was in this picture. It seems like just the other day that we were spending that Spring Break day together in Salt Lake. We went to Temple Square, the top of the Church Office building (past all the new post-9/11 security) and the Gateway. Ahh, those were the days when all my kids were happy to spend the day with me just sight-seeing, and going to Salt Lake was a big, exciting excursion. :) It's often individual outings now -a Jazz game with Scott, lunch with Camille, Jr. High play with Matt, a trip to Mesquite with Kevin (and Matt). I'm just happy when we get the whole family together for a game of Farkle or a trip to the bowling alley. And even then the "whole family" doesn't usually include Camille. Thank goodness she's only 75 minutes away and we still see her fairly often. Life changes and I'll take all the family time I can get!

What a cutie! Look at those pudgie little fingers!

That was back when I made homemade pie crust -somewhere along the line I decided it wasn't worth the time. But homemade does taste better. Maybe I'll do it again this year -if Matt helps!

This second picture was a major triumph. A normal smile from Kevin. At this period in time that was an accomplishment. See above.

Lane Family Reunion at unfinished cabin

A lot of changes since then. I had to post this because of Grandma and Aunt Dot. I miss them. Oh and because of Kevin's mustache. I forgot about that.

Flashback Friday

I love this picture from 18 years ago this month. Camille had just started walking and her hair was just long enough to get a tiny curl. Looking back, I think about how much she needed me then for every aspect of her life. Now that she has moved out I sometimes wonder how much she needs me these days. Of course you always need your mother, and I love the random texts and phone calls I get for cooking instructions and other questions, but the truth is that, no, she doesn't need me the way she used to, and I guess that's a good thing. I'm glad she's entering this new, exciting, independent phase of her life. Now I need to do the same thing. :) (As well as enjoy the fact that I still have 3 (4?) boys at home who need me a lot - although they might not like to admit it sometimes!)

Arches National Park -2003

I think this is the last time we were there, and it seems like yesterday, but I guess it wasn't from the looks of our kids. I remember Scott woke up sick to his stomach the morning this picture was taken, but made the hike to Delicate Arch without complaining. He doesn't look super energetic, though, does he? I came down with the same thing the next day and once I knew how he felt I was sorry for dragging him along!

Flashback Friday

I'm not sure how many times Scott has played football since this photo was taken 5 years ago, but he decided that this is the year and he's playing for Ogden High this year. Maybe he will be what they need to turn their team around. Actually, I'm just hoping he doesn't get killed.

Flashback Friday

Every year we take pictures before leaving for school on the first day of school. This blurry picture is the very first one ever, taken on Camille's first day of kindergarten. She was so excited and soooo big, I thought. It seems like just a minute ago now, but it really has been quite an adventure through 5 different schools lots of different friends and ups and downs. Camille has handled herself with grace through all of it. At one point she went to 4 schools in 4 years! Quite an accomplishment considering we moved only once in that time. It's just the way it worked out with moving from elementary to Jr. High in Centerville, then moving to Ogden where she went to middle school for one year then was on to high school for 9th grade. Through everything she has always done her very best and never settled for anything less. She is breathing much easier these days with her AP tests behind her. The verdict: Calculus -UGH! Literature -hard, but okay, Biology -Better than expected, but still hard, English Language -Last the best of all the game. Now she just has to finish the half-marathon tomorrow, play in a piano/violin duet in Seminary Graduation next Sunday, speak in church next Sunday, and remember not to trip in graduation on the 26th and she can truly relax.

This is the most recent first day of school picture. (Matt left an hour later so he was in a different picture) Camille would have a hard time holding Kevin in her arms now!
