Kevin has been busy on his science fair project and John has been busy helping him, since the idea they came up with was more complicated than I was good for. Basically they measured the speed of sound and tried to determine whether it was affected by temperature. They used our electric keyboard, a couple of microphones, a computer to record the results and open windows to freeze out our basement. In case you were wondering, sound actually travels faster in the heat. Go figure.
He won 1st place in his category (physics) and was one of 6 sweepstakes winners chosen from the 7th grade to advance to the state competition. Good job, Kevin!
Good job Kevin. When you go to college and take thermodynamics, you can even derive the equation that tells you why the speed of sound changes with the temperature.
