The fruit of my laborI was on my own this year and it took me a full day and a half to put up this apple sauce. Don't get me wrong -we'll enjoy it. With all the moving last year I didn't do any canning and we've been resorting to -gasp!- store bought applesauce lately, but I have to wonder if 45 quarts of applesauce and a sticky kitchen is really worth spending that much time on. I don't know, maybe it was, if only for the connection I somehow feel to my mom and grandma and ancestors on down the line when I do it. If only it didn't take so long and make such a mess! Do you think they complained as much as me?

ReplyDeleteYes, I used to complain and wonder if it was worth it every year, but oh, the satisfaction looking at the full bottles. I'll look forward to helping next year. It's much more pleasant doing it together.
